The Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art
MoMA was one of the more extraordinary parts of our trip. Being thrifty, we decided to make it out on the day where tickets were provided for free, courtesy of Target. We thought that we’d be able to waltz right in, but it turns out that there was a line outside that we missed which stretched around the building and queued up like at an amusement park.
It went fast, but in the meantime we were able to take in some of the views of the area. There were a number of beautiful buildings including the gothic church that you see below.
Once we got inside, I started snap, snap, snapping away with my Canon. I decided to take a step ahead from just documenting the art to documenting my favorite parts, effectively creating some of my own. These pics really show what my little SD800 is capable of.
There were some really need pieces in there, including some interactive art (like shadow puppets on acid), but the most surreal part was seeing Starry Nights in person. A beefy guard stood close to protect the priceless painting, and no one felt safe to go within a few feet, as if there were a plastic bubble or velvet rope holding them back. I broke free and hopped right up to it. As with many of the other paintings, I tried to capture the actual texture of the painting, and was really happy with the outcome, despite the thick glass.
I hadn’t been to a lot of museums in my time, but of them this was in its own league.
